Dress Code
The Opelousas High School dress code supports a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment. Students are expected to follow the St. Landry Parish School Board uniform policy each school day.
Before purchasing school clothing, please review the requirements below.

Uniform Shirts
Students may wear plain, collared polo shirts in:
White
Navy
Black (may have the official OHS Crest on the left chest)
All uniform shirts must:
Be tucked in at the waist.
Be long enough to remain tucked while seated.
Have either short or long sleeves.
Undershirts
Undershirts may be worn under the uniform shirt and must:
Be solid white.
Have no visible logos or writing.
Not extend beyond the sleeve of the uniform shirt.

Uniform Bottoms
Students must wear classic, traditional, straight-leg uniform bottoms in one of the following colors:
Dark Khaki
Navy
Approved uniform bottoms include:
Uniform pants
Walking shorts
(Girls) Traditional skirts or jumpers
Uniform bottoms must:
Fit appropriately at the waist and crotch.
Be within one size of the student's actual waist and inseam measurement.
Include a waistband with belt loops.
Have a finished hem.
Shorts, Skirts & Jumpers
Walking shorts, skirts, and jumpers must be no more than four (4) inches above the back crease of the knee.
Not Permitted
The following items are not part of the St. Landry Parish School Board uniform policy:
Jeans of any color
Cargo or carpenter pants
Joggers
Bell-bottom pants
Hip huggers
Overalls
Pants with cargo pockets
Sagging pants
Tight or revealing clothing
Leggings or tights worn as pants
Stone, white, or dark brown uniform bottoms
Belts
Students must wear a belt with all uniform bottoms that include belt loops.
Approved belt colors:
Black
Brown
Khaki
White
Navy
Belts must:
Be worn through all belt loops.
Be worn at the waist.
Have a plain buckle no larger than 2" x 3".
Studded belts and belts hanging outside of the belt loops are not permitted.
Socks
Socks are required every day.
Approved sock colors:
White
Black
Brown
Navy
Socks must be free of inappropriate logos or emblems.
Shoes
Students must wear closed-toe, closed-heel shoes at all times.
Shoes must:
Be properly laced and tied.
Have Velcro straps securely fastened, if applicable.
Not Permitted:
Sandals
Flip-flops
Slides
Clogs/Crocs
Slippers
Any other open-toe or open-heel footwear
Outerwear
Outerwear with a hood is not permitted.
Approved outerwear may be worn over the school uniform during cold weather.
Sweatshirts
Approved sweatshirts must:
Be waist length.
Have a ribbed elastic waistband.
Be solid black, white, heather gray, or navy.
Be free of logos or markings.
Sweaters
Approved sweaters include:
Crew neck
V-neck
Cardigan
Sweaters must:
Have sleeves.
Be waist length
Be solid black, white, heather gray, or navy.
Be free of logos or markings.
Jackets, Windbreakers & Coats
Approved jackets and coats must:
Zip, button, or snap from top to bottom.
Be no longer than the upper mid-thigh.
Be solid black, white, khaki, heather gray, or navy.
Be free of logos or markings.
Knit Caps (Beanies)
Students may wear knit caps (beanies) that:
Do not include a face covering.
Do not have ear flaps.
Do not have pom-poms.
Beanies must be removed upon entering the school building or classroom.
Student IDs
All students will be issued an Opelousas High School student ID.
Students are expected to wear their ID on their collar with the photo visible at all times.
Replacement IDs may be purchased if lost or damaged.
Backpacks & Bags
Backpacks
Students must use:
Clear/transparent backpacks
Mesh backpacks
Purses, Handbags, & Lunch Bags
Students may carry purses, handbags, and lunch bags that comply with the St. Landry Parish School Board size requirements.
Any bag exceeding the allowable size must be clear.
Extracurricular Bags
Athletic bags, instrument cases, and other extracurricular equipment bags do not have to be transparent but must be stored in the designated area immediately upon arrival to campus.
Principal's Authority
OHS Administration has the final authority in determining whether a student's attire comply with the St. Landry Parish School Board dress code.
School Spirit Days and other approved dress days may allow temporary exceptions to the standard uniform policy.
